HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE

The Medical Parasitology and Mycology Department (formerly Parasitology section of Microbiology Department) was established in Hamadan University of Medical Sciences in 1986.

In 1990, the Department of Microbiology was divided into three independent disciplines namely Department of Medical Parasitology and Mycology, Department of Microbiology (Bacteriology and Virology) and Department of Immunology.

ACTIVITIES

The Department involves in education, research, diagnostic services and consultative services.

TEACHING PROGRAMS

1. Teaching Medical Parasitology and Mycology to the students of Medicine, Pharmacology, Dentistry, Para-medicine, Nursing and Midwifery.
2. Teaching post-graduate students in the following educational level:

• MSc. in Medical Parasitology
• Ph.D. in Medical Parasitology

RESEARCH

The principal research of the Department of Medical Parasitology and Mycology is mainly centered on the applied aspects comprising epidemiologic, experimental, biochemical and molecular investigations as well as diagnosis, control and chemotherapy.

 DIAGNOSTIC SERVICES

· Diagnosis of parasites (Leishmania, malaria, intestinal protozoa, helminthes and etc.) referred to the Dept.

· Diagnosis of fungal diseases
